Father Allegedly Assaults, and Breaks his 2-Month-Old Baby’s Arm with Hanger For Disrupting His Sleep.
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), and the National Human Right Commission (NHRC) Imo state chapter have called on the Imo State Government and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for an immediate arrest and prosecution of one Mr Confidence Amatobi, 31, a native of Amurie in Isu LGA Imo state, for allegedly breaking his 2-month-old baby’s arm that led to the amputation of the fractured arm.
The aggrieved mother alongside the NAWOJ and NHRC has made a call for justice on behalf of the baby in Owerri, Imo state.
The Imo State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Dr Dorothy Nnaji paid a visit to the amputated boy, Miracle, at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owerri, and disclosed that the injury inflicted by the 31-year-old father led to the amputation of the little boy’s right hand.
According to the report, Mr Amatobi may have repeatedly hit the baby with a plastic object to stop him from crying until the right hand broke.
Mrs Favour Chikwe, the mother to the baby, Miracle, narrates how the incident happened after she left him with his father to use the convenience.
Speaking of the experience, she said she overheard the baby crying uncontrollably and had to rush back to know the cause of her cry only for her to find out that his right hand was swollen with a broken bone as a result of the beating he received from his father.
The father who has learnt what has happened confessed that the baby was disrupting his sleep with his cry so he tried to stop him by whipping him.
She said: “When l confronted him about what he did, he shut us in the room, to stop me from telling people about his wicked act or seek for help. He also collected my phone from me so that I will not call the neighbours.”
After two days she found her way out, but then the baby's arm was already decayed. to save the baby, the arm was cut off from his shoulder. The father escaped.
